Words are words. Some words are nothing. Some, are everything. Today I came across an old photo. A screenshot of an email. An email that was sent to me years back. Many, many years back. It’s when I was an active blogger at liveitlively.blogspot.com . […]
Cikgu is not just a job. It’s a profession. It’s a career. And it’s not easy to be a cikgu. Especially cikgu disiplin. Trust me, I know. Huhu
Cikgu Disiplin Sekolah Aku
Admit it, there are a few cikgus or teachers that stay in our minds and/or hearts. Be it for the good reasons, or the bad ones. Typically, we remember the inspiring ones, the pretty/handsome teachers, the funny, the kind, the malas… and of course – the garang ones. Ladies and gentlemen, enter Cikgu Disiplin (disciplinary teacher) . Lol
Cikgu Disiplin Sekolah Aku has a beautiful line up of credible actors, actresses and theater lovers. Featuring Amirul Syakir, Amir Yunos, Andy Poon, Anwar Hadi, Arshad TMZ, Mawar Roseka and Tria Aziz, the play brings up multiple major themes and elements that are compressed into a one hour and forty-five minutes performance. It’s craftily written by Khairunazwan Rodzy and Khairi Anwar and finely directed by Christopher Ling, resulting a very critical show that leaves impacts on the audience.
About the play
“Perhaps you’re given a choice – follow an order that has a clear goal for the greater good of your organisation, or fight for those who don’t exactly have a clear chance of succeeding. Which would you pick?
In the quest to make his school a sekolah kluster kecemerlangan or ‘cluster school’, Cikgu Mail, the disciplinary teacher of the school, which he’s famous for being strict and feared by the students, acts under the order of his Principal to sentence, and even dismiss students with disciplinary problems or even bad academic grades. The school would rise through the ranks, because only the good students with good grades would get assessed, without being brought down by the bad grades from the problematic ones. At least, that was the idea.
Despite the school administration feeling like they’re winning the numbers game, the students are starting to rebel. It’s cruel – inhumane, the students say. Who is right? Who is wrong? Which comes first, the performance of the school as a whole, or standing up for the “stupid” students lacking a future?”

Cikgu Disiplin Sekolah Aku (CDSA) carries A LOT for me, us, the crowd, to think. The issues are fresh, legit, real and on-going. It surfaces the obstacles and challenges that many teachers, parents and students, are facing nowadays, especially those who have to – by hook or by crook – oblige their so called ‘rules and regulations’ . All the key points are strongly shown via the dynamics of the personas. Of course, the characters are brilliant! They simply know what and how best to deliver the messages and the gist of the play beautifully. I love seeing the efforts that they put to make us the audience understand those conflicts, struggles, hassles, feelings and emotions shouldered.
And all the good things don’t stop there. I had some goosebumps upon certain scenes and moments. The intonations used, voice projections, the settings of the scenes, timing, language, backstage and support… I’d say Cikgu Disiplin Sekolah Aku is exquisitely great thanks to the entire production team and everybody behind it.
Definitely a YES! material
I really enjoyed my time there. CDSA is one of the definitions of a good play. Wish you were there. And I wish they would continue making and producing such fine quality plays, shows and performances in the future. Well done, guys! Kudos! Keep up the good work. =)
